Rome

Spent a couple of hours around the Vatican on October 16th. To enlarge, click on the images. :)

All roads in Rome seem to lead to the Basilica.

Tourists are everywhere. They sit by the roads, sculpted marble fountains and pillars, looking at other tourists through their Gucci sunglasses. Who in turn look back at them and vice versa, ad infinitum etc.

With the cobblestone streets and  sandstone pillars all around, you could as well be somewhere in the 1700s. (If you choose to ignore the clatter of the latest Ferragamo heels on cobblestones.)

Cardinals. Nuns. Vespas. Lasagne. Wines. Lancias. Pizzerias. Religious Articles. Michaelangelo. Couture. Beggars. Swiss Guards. Olives. And McDonalds.

The population can be divided into three. 1. Those who sell souvenirs. 2. Those who buy souvenirs. 3. Those who look at souvenirs.

Looking closely at the image recently, I found a model shoot happening in the left side of the picture.

The irresistible shop fronts

If you chance to look up (at the risk of being hit by a Vespa), the skies are simply divine.

I like what these pillars do to my ego.

Where are all these rucksack carrying people rushing to?

This waitress, tired of waiting, walked out into the street, shouting, “Lasagne, Lasagne”

Icons stop me in my tracks. I picked up a couple of Rublev prints from a shop nearby.

Road? Restaurant?

The sun gives a final peek before setting.

There's something about these pillars.
Whew. Got it all in one frame.
